Socialist Cuba: A Study of Health Tourism

Jonathan N. Goodrich

This study focuses on tourism in Cuba since the Revolution with special emphasis on the novel concept of health tourism. The article provides a brief historical background on tourism in socialist Cuba, defines health tourism, gives a short historical perspective on health tourism, and discusses the health/tourism interaction. It then discusses health tourism in socialist Cuba, adds new dimensions to the general concept of health tourism (e.g., travel health care services), and suggests areas for future research.
