The American Group Tourist as Viewed by British, Israeli, Korean, and Dutch Tour Guides

A sample of 286 tour guides of British, Israeli, Korean, and Dutch nationalities rated 20 behavioral characteristics of American tourists on escorted motor coach tours. The objective of the study was to identify the similarities and differences of perceptions between the four nationalities of the tour guides. The results indicated that for the majority of the behavioral characteristics measured (11/20), there was a similarity of opinions, or a common mental model, among the nationalities of tour guides regarding the behavioral characteristics of American tourists on escorted motor coach tours. In 2 characteristics there was a uniformity of opinions among all four nationalities, and in 9 characteristics, three of the four nationalities had similar opinions.
